2016 NFL Season
With today being Thursday, September 15, the second week of the 2016 NFL season has officially begun. Before the NY Jets and Buffalo Bills kick of Week 2 tonight in Buffalo at 8:30pm on CBS, we wanted to recap what was a wild Week 1 in the NFL.
The 2016 NFL season kicked-off with a rematch of Super Bowl 50 between the defending Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers. Although it was the start of a new season, and soon to be Hall of Famer quarterback Peyton Manning was no longer controlling the Broncos, the result was still the same, with the Broncos defeating the Panthers in a hard fought, physical game.
The rest of the Week 1 games were played on Sunday and Monday, and featured a ton of scoring, highlight plays and big hits. Some notable results were the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeating the Atlanta Falcons behind a four touchdown MVP-like performance form quarterback Jameis Winston, as well as the Oakland Raiders coming from behind to defeat the New Orleans Saints in dramatic fashion (despite quarterback Drew Bress’s huge day). Additionally, the Detroit Lions surprisingly defeated the Indianapolis Colts at home, the NY Giants squeaked out a victory over their rival Dallas Cowboys on the road, and the New England Patriots stole a win from the Arizona Cardinals on the road without their franchise quarterback Tom Brady.
All in all, it was an extremely exciting Week 1 of NFL football, and the anticipation for the rest of the season is palpable. Hopefully we will continue to see high scoring, competitive games through the Super Bowl this February in Houston, TX.
